Jamil Naqsh is one of the modern Pakistani painters, who expressed his ideas for the sake of stylization. He presented his art work in a stylized manner with the combination of expressionism and symbolism throughout his career. At a mature stage of his art, he added experimentation and textural details to his painting compositions, which added interest and distinctiveness to his art. His art has direct inspiration through Pablo Picasso from western painters and Shakir Ali from Pakistan. But he did not allow these influences to overcome his own style. The aim and objective of the present research is to give detail knowledge about the style, medium, influences of the art of Naqsh. His style is identical and added textural details to create a difference in his art. Though Naqsh painted a subject matter similar to Shakir Ali, but the execution and way of presentation is different in case of Naqsh as compared to Ali. Stylized way of expression used by both artists in their own respective manners is also a prominent similarity among the art of both artists, which is a vital part of the research work.
Mix media techniques, textural effects and experimentation, are some characteristics which make the art of Naqsh different from his mentors will be mentioned. Design and decorative elements are also a part of Naqsh’s compositions, which give his art a distinctive quality entirely. Naqsh kept on changing his color palette, rendering, mediums and techniques, but the characteristics that kept unchanged all through his career are stylization as well as the choice of subject matter, which remained unchanged throughout his life all relevant discussion and analysis of his art work will be mentioned in the present research.
