Thematic Study of the Novels of Arundhati Roy

Abstract

Arundhati Roy is a political and social thinker and intellectual from India. She is also a literary writer with a secular mind. In opposition to the politics of violence in India and Hindu extremism against Muslims and Dalits, and for writing in favor of Kashmiris' right to self-determination, she was censured by the Indian state. So far her two novels "God of Small Things" and "The Ministry of Utmost Happiness" have been published. In these novels, Arundhati Roy deals with religious violence, gender discrimination, corruption of political and military institutions and state violence against the weaker sections in the Indian society. This essay is a thematic study of Arundhati Roy's novels.
