Analytical Review of the tradition of shot story writing in Balochistan

Abstract

Balochistan is the largest province of Pakistan in terms of area. This is a region where the tradition of prose literature began in the mid-nineteenth century. By the beginning of the twentieth century, this tradition had begun to take root. One of the reasons for the promotion of Urdu language in Balochistan is the arrival of British in this region while the other major reason is the affiliation with education and teaching. Yusuf Aziz Magsi and Abdul Aziz achieved a special place in the Baloch nation by raising their voice against oppression and achieved priority status in Baloch mythological history. Together they laid the foundations of resistance against oppression. Yusuf Aziz Magsi was criticized by his critics for lacking the artistic qualities necessary for a novel. But those critics also confirm that Yusuf Aziz Magsi is the first name of fiction in Balochistan. Others who strengthened the tradition of short story writing in Balochistan are Muhammad Umair Baloch, Nasir Balochistani, Syed Khalil Ahmad, Anwar Roman, Mubarak Ahmad Shahid, Shamshad Anwar, Abdul Rehman Ghor, Moinul Haq, Abid Mir etc. This article covers the said tradition with critical content analysis.
