Tabassum Kashmiri is considered as one of the renowned historians and critics of Urdu, but he has also a very deep and effective creative sight. It is just a coincidence that his creative endeavors, poetry and fiction; have not been discussed as much as his other works. In this article, Dr. Tabassum Kashmiri's novel writing has been reviewed. His piece of fiction “Qasba Kahani” was published in 1993. This novel provides an opportunity to understand the Pakistani society of the last quarter of the twentieth century in which the collapses of values, public unrest, and feeling of insecurity and paralysis of the whole system of life by a few institutions were major reflections. After reading this novel, one can easily realise that the story of a “qasba” presented in it is in fact a metaphor of Pakistan.
