Masood Asher is one of the most important Urdu fiction writers, but another major reference to his identity is journalism. Masood Asher stayed in Multan for 19 years and worked as editor of the daily Imrooz published from here. During that time he also started a series of literary columns in the same newspaper. This article analyzes the literary columns of Masood Ashar and seeks to show that during his stay in Multan, he compiled an informal literary history of Multan by writing about literary personalities, literary activities and gatherings as well as the overall literary atmosphere of the region. He is still writing in Daily 'Jang" as political and literary analyst.
