This article aims to investigate the phenomenon of linguistic formation in modern Urdu poetry with particular reference to Jilani Kamran, a representative poet of Halqa Arbab-e- Zouq. The feature of linguistic novelty is evident in the very title of his first collection of poems named "Astanza" the word looks to be derived from "Stanza". a metrical unit within a poem in English poetry. The era of Jilani Kamran was the era of political upheaval because of the independence movement of Pakistan but he inclined to focus more on literature than politics. The environment of his home and his social circle was highly literary. Moreover, the literary environment at the University of Edinburgh in 1954 might have been worked as a contributing factor in the creation of his master piece "Astanza". The findings reveal that Jilani Kamran experimented with the Urdu language in modern poetry in the form of new techniques, new terms, new proverbs, new images and new similes and metaphors. He has presented his modern poetry by inverting new words in Urdu along with the countless themes of isolation, internal confusions of humans, psychological breakdown and absurdity of modern man. His works also offer the inclusion of Islamic mythology, history and civilization to show its relation with precious essence of Islamic traditions.
